Peter S. Loonam was born in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y. in 1933. He majored in Art at Freeport High School and then two years at the State University, Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y. where he majored in Advertising Art. Peter then spent two years with the 4th Armored Division (U.S. Army) as Artist & Graphic Designer. Following his tour with the U.S. Army, Peter joined the advertising agency McCann Erickson where he spent the next 20 years doing television advertising for major U.S. corporations such as Nabisco, Coca-Cola, Exxon and many others. Peter's work for the agency took him all over the world creating, producing and even directing award winning television commercials for these clients.

Peter's interest in painting started early, around 5 or 6 years of age ... He is self-taught in the watercolor and oil medium. His interest in sporting art was natural since he spent a lot of his time on the Great South Bay Marshes and the Barrier Island Sand Dunes.

Peter and his wife Nancy opened "The Peter S. Loonam Gallery Ltd." in Bridgehampton, L.I., N.Y. in 1977. The Gallery featured mostly contemporary works along with Peter's work. Since 1987 Peter has exhibited from Canada to Georgia and has been awarded many ribbons and prizes along the way.
