Born in Iowa in 1945, Miller has spent most of his life following the creative endeavors that brought him to the decision to turn professional as a full time wildlife and nature artist in 1990. He graduated from art school in the md 60's and spent a number of years working as a designer and a draftsman in New York City, followed by a lively decade as a teacher working with emotionally disturbed children outside Atlanta, Georgia. These days, after extensive travels throughout Africa, the western United States and Canada, he relishes studio time and the opportunity to take his reference, sketches and memories of the time with elephants, mountain goats and backyard birds, and turn them into the drawings that make his life joyful.

Working exclusively in various grades of graphite, he portrays his personal experiences in the field through delicate line work, rough textural contrasts and the soft depiction of fur and hide. His works have won numerous awards and have been included in both internationally recognized juried and invitational exhibitions, and can be found in many corporate, private and museum collections both here and abroad. He served as Artist in Residence for two years at the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum outside of New York City and during his time there, mounted a major exhibition of his African works under the title, 'Kalahari to Kilimanjaro; the journeys of four artists in Africa'. This exhibition, named as one of the most interesting and well received in the museums history, was shared with fellow wildlife artists Paula Waterman, Julia Rogers and sculptor, Bart Walter.

With his recent move to the hill country of central Maryland, Miller has found new adventures and inspiration in the beautiful farmlands and valleys that lie just beyond his studio windows. Forays out into these new fields of reference have motivated him to approach different subjects from his typical lions and giraffe, and barns, cows and the 'local scene' are slowly creeping into his works. Africa will always remain, though, a major focus in his work and he has embarked on a major project, along with a number of other internationally recognized wildlife artists, of illustrating a number of poems for a soon to be published book on Africa and its animals.
